Storyboards? Collages? You know the saying, “…a rose by any other name would smell as sweet…” I’ve delved into a couple different industries since my hi-tech years and with that, have found that certain things may have different names but in essence are all quite the same. Take, for example, what photographers call “storyboards.” Meant to be a group of related pictures that “tell a story.” Well, scrapbookers call these “collages” – with the same purpose – telling a story.
While my previous life as a layout designer and product manufacturer ran its course, I learned valuable design concepts that have already helped me as a photographer. That is, presenting the photos in a logical sequence of activities or emotions or events. Collages (or storyboards) to me, are a fabulous way to give my clients previews of the photos from their sessions. Even better, these “collages” make fabulous wall art and help my clients see how they could show off their photos in a pleasing, organized way…sometimes mixing color with black and white photos. Essentially, I’ve taken much of the
agony guesswork out of the decision-making process by grouping photos together for them in an attractive display.
